Where is Your Donation Going?
With so many charities and good causes to support, it is important to do your research and ensure that your money will be used for the right cause, and also that the charity actually receives your donation.
Here are some simple guidelines and tips to ensure that you can be comfortable making your donation…
- Donating to an overseas charity can be risky, as they are difficult to verify. Many Australian charities operate overseas and do great work, but are based in Australia, and these can be a safer bet.
- Ensure your donation is tax deductible.
- If someone is contacting you directly for a donation, check if the person is authorised to represent the charity and shows a copy of their ID, as well as the organisaton’s pledge form showing the name of the organisation, their ABN number, business address and logo.
- Do not provide your credit card details over the phone. If the charity is reputable, you will be able to make your donation online or in person, and do not need to provide your credit card or bank details over the phone. How to do your research:
The Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC) is the independent national regulator of charities. They ensure charities understand and meet their obligations, and provide the Charity Register to help make an informed decision about your donation. It will tell you the status of nearly 55,000 charities to ensure the organisation is legitimate.
Sticky Tickets supports many charities, however each charity which we support is required to show proof of their eligibility. One off charity rebate applications are also required to provide an ‘Authority to Fundraise’ letter from the charity they are fundraising for.
We are proud to support so many worth causes and congratulate you on your support also!
